The Meeteetse Recreation District in partners with the USFS, offers a public backcountry cabin for recreators to enjoy year-round. This backcountry cabin is accessible only by foot during the winter months (December-May). During the summer, spring, and fall the cabin can be accessed by foot, ATV, or vehicle (dependent on the river crossing). The South Fork Cabin can be reserved for a maximum of 3 nights ($50 donation per night is appreciated & Advanced reservations are required). Please see calendar below for available dates.

The cabin is equipped with 4 bunk beds, comfortably sleeping 4 people but can accommodate up to 8. The cabin is equipped with pots, pan, utensils, cooking stove, propane canisters, coffee pot, firewood (ONLY FOR INSIDE USE Dec-May), outdoor bathroom, sleeping pads, and lanterns. The only items renters need are personal sleeping gear, food, and beverages.

We kindly ask renters to clean up after themselves so we can keep fees low and provide the best experience for every recreator.

Cabin Key will be located at the Rec on the day of arrival by 10:00am (check email prior to reservation). We kindly ask renters to be out of the cabin by 12:00 departure day so next renters have plenty of time to enjoy the facility as well.

Reservation Directions: The system will display 12:01, that is the correct option. THE DAY YOU RESERVE CORRESPONDS TO THE NIGHT YOU WANT TO STAY. (Example: If you want to reserve the night of Friday June 30th, select 12:01 on Friday June 30th.)

When reserving additional nights: Select “Add Time” and you will be able to select multiple days. The reserved days (Nights) will appear on the right side.

The scheduling system will send you notifications leading up to your reservation. Check your email prior to your reservation for key drop information.

Directions:

-Take HWY 290 (Pitchfork HWY) for approximately 6 miles.

-Turn left on Wood River Road 4DT. Stay on the Wood River Road until you reach the Forest Boundary (Paved Road will turn into gravel road).

-At the Forest Boundary, turn Left on Forrest Service Road into the parking area (1510 CR-4Dt). The road will lead down to the river.

-Cross the river and follow it until you come to the South Fork/Brown Creek Y.

-Take a right onto Forrest Service Road 201 1C. Follow the road up the South Fork to the cabin for roughly 2 miles.

FAQ

Is the cabin accessible year round?

-  Yes! However, the road is closed December 1st-May 1st. There is a foot/4wheeler bridge. We advised using it during high water).

 How far is the hike into the Cabin?

- Roughly 2 miles from Trailhead. Very gradual walk/ski

Is firewood provided?

- During the winter months December-April, the MRD cuts and splits firewood for the indoor wood stove. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SPLIT WOOD FOR THE OUTDOOR FIRE PIT! There is plenty of down dead trees to use in the outdoor fire pit (you may need to take a saw to cut wood for outside pit). Firewood is not guaranteed May-November.

 Is there a restroom?

-   Yes. There is a vaulted restroom next to the cabin

 My reservation is on the weekend? How do I get the key for the cabin?

- We will arrange a key drop when you make a reservation. The key can then be picked up at your convenience on the day of your reservation.

Are pets allowed?

- You may have pets in the cabin, but we kindly ask to clean up after them. PLEASE make sure you thoroughly sweep up, as not every renter is fond of pet hair. You will be responsible for pet damage
