The Meeteetse Recreation District offers two challenging mountain runs during the year:
The Wagon Box Social: For 2010 it will take place on June 26, 2010. This race consists of three different distances a 5K, a 10K, and a 13K. This race is located near the historical Kirwin Gold Mine, what a beautiful location for a mountain run!
Meeteetse Absaroka Challenge: For 2010 it will take place on Sept. 4, 2010. This race consists of three different distances a 5K, a 10K, and a 15K. This is an extreme run on a beautiful course, you can’t ask for more. Runners will have a wonderful day, and participants will have stories and smiles as they explain the 1,000-ft. radical descent to the finish line. This race is set up for great spectator viewing, you will be able to view the crazy runners coming down the mountain near the Timber Creek location. Trail Runners Magazine has picked the Meeteetse Absaroka Challenge to be apart of 120 other mountain runs, which are considered to make up the Trophy Series. This means that a point system is in place and the runners with the most points in various age divisions win great prizes. All racers finishing a registered Trophy Series Race receive points in either of two divisions: marathon and shorter distance (26.2 miles and shorter); or ultra (longer than a marathon). Please visit www.trailrunnermag.com for details.
Both races include T-Shirts, a post Barbecue, wonderful Prize Drawings and Awards to Division Placers.
Each mountain run has six different age divisions in both women’s and men’s categories. Race Age Divisions for Female and Male 14 & Under 15-17 18-39 40-49 50-59 60 & Over
